The Irish Blessing is presented here for wind band in what I regard as its ideal scoring. This has been tried and tested in performance, found to be successful, and should be aimed for if possible. Small
size notes may be omitted if the required tone quality and intonation cannot be achieved. The solo oboe part in particular may pose problems, and this part is provided transposed for Bb Soprano Saxophone (or, of course, Clarinet) if preferred. The ? ute parts given in small notes in bars 1620 may be omitted
at the conductors discretion, but they should not be played an octave higher. The opening quartet may be adapted within reason to suit individual needs (a brass quartet perhaps?). Some suggested cues
are provided, but the main aim should be to establish a balanced ensemble from which the full band sound can emerge.
