PRELUDE FESTIVO
Prelude Festivo kan brukes både i konsert- og konkurransesammenheng og inneholder soloinnslag i de fleste instrumentgrupper.
Durata 7,5 min. Form: Hurtig- Langsom - Hurtig
Stykket er bygget over to temaer:
Tema 1 (Allegro con spirito) presenteres første gang som kornettsolo etter en fanfarelignende åpning.
Tema 2 antydes allerede i åpningstaktene, men blir presentert i sin helhet i den langsomme (Andante) delen (takt 141).
Dette temaet bearbeides og oppstår også som melodiske og rytmiske fragmenter gjennom hele komposisjonen. I avslutningsdelen (takt 196) settes begge tema opp mot hverandre før det hele avsluttes med fanfaretemaet fra åpningstaktene.
Deler som er angitt med piu mosso ed leggiero skal spilles muntert i en lett staccato-stil i kontrast til Andante cantabile.
PRELUDE FESTIVO
Prelude Festivo is intended to be performed both in concerts and in competitions and includes solo passages for most instrument groups.
Duration 7,5 minutes. Form: Fast slow fast.
The piece is built on two themes:
Theme 1 (Allegro con spirito) is first presented as a cornet solo after a fanfare-like opening.
Theme 2 is hinted at in the opening bars, but is presented fully in the slow (Andante) section (bar 141).
This theme is developed and also appears as melodic and rhytmic fragments throughout the composition. In the concluding section (bar 196) both themes are played in conjunction before the piece concludes with the fanfare theme from the opening bars.
Parts that are marked piu mosso ed leggiero should be played in a cheerful light staccato style in contrast to Andante cantabile.
JOHN BRAKSTAD
John Brakstad er født i Bergen. Han har fått mye av sin musikalske erfaring som dirigent, komponist og arrangør for Frelsesarmeen, og fra studier ved Bergen Musikkonservatorium.
Han har arbeidet som dirigent for en rekke skole- amatør- og kretskorps. Brakstad har også vært mye brukt som dommer ved Norges Musikkorpsforbunds konkurranser og mesterskap.
Han har utgitt en rekke komposisjoner for både brass- og janitsjarbesetning på Norsk Noteservice as.
Blant disse har flere vært pliktnummer ved Norgesmesterskapene for amatørkorps og som siden har blitt mye spilt i NM-sammenheng. Blant hans mest spilte originalmusikk er Variations for Band, The Old Railwaystation, Musica Tripartite og Kobolt.
Han har skrevet musikk for Forsvarets Musikkorps Vestlandet (Divisjonsmusikken i Bergen) og Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps som har blitt fremført ved Festspillene i Bergen. Brakstad skrev også musikk til åpnings seremonien ved OL på Lillehammer i 1994 (Prelude Olympic), og han har også skrevet et større originalverk for kor og korps til Arne Garborg-jubileet i 2001.
JOHN BRAKSTAD
John Brakstad lives in Bergen, Norway.
John Brakstad gained much of his muiscal experience as bandmaster, composer and arranger for the Salvation Army, and from studies at the Bergen Musikk-konservatorium.
He has also been working as a conductor for several Norwegian Contest bands, and is regularly used as an adjudicator at The Norwegian Band associations contests and championships.
Brakstad has written many compositions for brass- and concert bands published by Norsk Noteservice as. Several of these has been test pieces at the national championships and later performed regularly at the same competitions. Among his original works are Variations for Band, The Old Railwaystation, Musica Tripartite and Cobalt.
He has written music for the Military band in his native Bergen and The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces which has been performed at the Bergen International Festival. Brakstad also wrote music (Prelude Olympic) for the opening ceremony at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway.
He also wrote a large work for choir and band for the Arne Garborg 150th Anniversary in 2001.
