Chanson et Passepied, Jeanine Rueff for Alto Saxophone and Piano

Highly regarded for the finesse and elegance of her spirited, humorous writing, the composer Jeanine Rueff (19221999) wrote numerous works for a variety of instruments, collaborating also with the renowned Marcel Mule, a great classical saxophonist known worldwide. Among her compositions for saxophone, three which have been played throughout the globe stand out: the Concertino for alto saxophone and string orchestra (1951), the Sonate for solo alto saxophone (1967) and her Concert en quatuor (1962). A good part of her catalogue is devoted to pedagogical pieces, like this lovely Chanson et Passepied (1951) for alto saxophone and piano which has become a must for players at an intermediate (after ap¬proximately 6 years of lessons) level.
