Ludwig P4 Multi-Level Practice Pad by Pat Petrillo
Drummer/Educator Pat Petrillo has developed the most unique and creative drum practice pad on the market! It offers four different sound surfaces for a variety of feels on 3 different levels, which develops hand technique and coordination. No flipping required! The bottom level is a specially designed rubber that feels very natural, not too bouncy. The middle level has a harder neoprene rubber, plus a softer, grey rubber for less bounce, similar to a floor tom. The top level has a hard red rubber, similar to the feel of a ride cymbal. Work your ride, high hat, or cascara pattern on the top pad, and use the lower levels to practice various snare and tom orchestrations. It's like playing a mini drum set! Comes with a thread on the bottom for a cymbal stand mount, or it fits in a snare basket.
Ludwig Launches New Pat Petrillo P4 Practice Pad ludwig has revolutionized the drum pad market with the introduction of the P4, the world’s first multi level practice pad. Designed and created by world renowned drummer Pat Petrillo, this one of a kind design features 3 playing levels to improve hand coordination, accuracy, and mobility around the drum set, as well as 4 different rubber pads that provide a variety of feels, responses, and sounds. The bottom level is a specially designed rubber that feels natural, and not overly bouncy. The middle level features two surfaces, a harder neoprene rubber, plus a softer, grey rubber for much less bounce, and the top level has a hard red rubber, similar to the feel of a ride cymbal.
The circular design of the Ludwig P4 allows it to fit neatly into a snare basket, be placed on a table top or snare drum, or it can be mounted onto a cymbal stand with the provided 8 mm thread. It is 4 practice pads in one, with no “flipping” required to achieve a diverse hand workout.
“I wanted to feel like I was moving around a drum set when I was working out on a pad”, says Pat. “So, I invented the P4, which allows me to work on independent techniques by moving one hand to the top level pad to practice a ride pattern, while keeping the other hand on the bottom pad for snare work. The middle pads serve as toms, so I can practice rhythm combinations. Also, as an educator, it gives my students more options, which is always beneficial for creativity, and it makes practicing more rewarding.”
